Restaurants bring home awards
Halifax , NS – Restaurants across Nova Scotia won bragging rights Wednesday, November 10th at the Westin Nova Scotian, during the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia’s (RANS) Annual General Meeting & 3rd Annual Awards Dinner. Awards were handed out in five categories this year – Best Small Restaurant, Best Large Restaurant, Best Wine & Beverage Menu, Best Design & Décor and Best Green Restaurant.
“Each year, during our AGM we take some time to recognize the efforts of our members,” said Costa Elles, president, RANS. “Everyone in the industry strives to be the best and taking some time to highlight those efforts is rewarding for us as an Association, as well as important for the industry.”
The winners of this year’s awards were: Best Small Restaurant, sponsored by Coca Cola – Charlotte Lane, Shelburne; Best Large Restaurant, sponsored by Cossette – Trendz Café & Wine Bar, Dartmouth; Best Wine & Beverage Menu, sponsored by NSLC – Five Fishermen Restaurant & Grill, Halifax; Best Design & Décor, sponsored by RANS – Pipa Restaurant, Halifax; Best Green Restaurant, sponsored by B.D. Rae Vito Filtration Systems – The Wooden Monkey, Halifax.
Each award, sponsored by a business, was opened to nominations by the public through the RANS consumer site www.edining.ca. Once voting closed, all nominations were compiled and a panel of industry judges ensured each restaurant fit the criteria and then decided on the finalists.
“This year’s judging panel did not have an easy time deciding on the winners,” said Gordon Stewart, executive director, RANS. “There are so many worthy restaurants all across Nova Scotia and each year it gets harder to choose.”
Two other awards were also presented during the awards dinner – Local Food Hero by Select Nova Scotia, awarded to Union Street Café in Berwick and Where magazine’s Best New Restaurant, awarded to Fujiyama restaurant.
