To Foodservice facility owners, operators, managers, and staff:
Food Hygiene (Food Handler) Training becomes mandatory under Section 28 of the Food Safety Regulations as of November 1, 2007. Please refer to the Mandatory Food Hygiene Training Fact Sheet which can be viewed at http://www.gov.ns.ca/agri/foodsafety/hygiene.shtml for more information.
If you have NOT attended a Food Hygiene (Food Handlers) Training Course, or the current certificate is more than five years old, it is time to update your training. The list below indicates the courses being held in Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), Nova Scotia. Participants are encouraged to attend a course closest to their geographical area.
NOTE:Courses being held are dependant on a minimum of 25 registrants. If you have registered for the course and minimum requirements are not reached, you will be contacted directly by the Department at the phone number indicated on your completed registration sheet, to be informed of cancellations. Your registration fee will be refunded if a course is cancelled.
Courses will also be cancelled if school is cancelled due to inclement weather in the immediate vicinity of the course location.
To attend one of the courses, please complete the registration form (HRM) indicating your course preference and submit, with the $23.18 fee, to the Halifax address listed on the form. Cheques or money orders are to be made payable to the Minister of Finance. Courses fill up quickly. To maintain your preferred date, please apply well in advance. Should the course be full when your registration form with payment is received, you will be automatically registered for the next available date. Confirmation will be sent to you. Remember to bring a pen or pencil for the course, as an exam is administered at the end of the day. A passing grade of 70% is needed to obtain your Food Safety Training certificate.
