Nova Scotia Wines Receive 19 Awards
at All Canadian Wine Championships
Halifax, N.S. - Nova Scotia wineries received an unprecedented 19 awards at the annual All Canadian Wine Championships in Windsor, Ontario.
“We have won in the past, we have won again,” says Janice Ruddock, managing director of the Winery Association of Nova Scotia. “Our wine is becoming nationally and internationally recognized and respected…we have a lot to be proud of here in Nova Scotia.”
The province’s newest winery, L'Acadie Vineyards, led by owner and winemaker Bruce Ewert, brought home three medals, including best in category for its L'Acadie Star.
"For many years I made award-winning wines for other wineries in the Okanagan Valley, all the while looking forward to the day when our family could move back to Nova Scotia and start our own winery,” says Ewert. “Opening L'Acadie Vineyards is our dream and the All Canadian awards further showcase that Nova Scotia grapes make great wine that can compete against other grape growing areas."
Gina Haverstock, the winemaker at Gaspereau Vineyards, received a total of seven medals including five gold awards for her wines.
“I am ecstatic with the awards that Gaspereau brought home,” says Haverstock. “What was even more exciting is the fact that the wines that received recognition were not from one category or style…the broad spectrum of awards goes to show that Nova Scotia can produce amazing wines in all categories.“
